Connecter 6.3 | (Material)X to the Z

Let’s cut right to the chase — a new update of Connecter is available for you, and all you need to do is restart the app or download it from the website. We already covered how the new releases will add fewer major features but will be more regular — that’s exactly what’s happening.

Obviously, the major new feature is…

MaterialX support & Node Editor

We wrote about the bright future (and history) of MaterialX and showed a teaser of this feature in a recent article. Now, it’s your turn to play with it.

The teaser in case you’ve missed it.

It’s one of the most thorough supports of an asset format that we’ve ever done — you get all the bells and whistles:

  • Automatically generated native preview in the assets view.
  • Interactive preview is available in the Previews Panel and the Lightbox gallery.
  • Advanced Node Graph Editor for adjusting and creating new materials.

And, yes, that’s the first format that can be created from scratch using Connecter. We give you the option to use two templates — Autodesk Standard Surface and USD Preview Surface — or you can build your very own.

Connecter 6.3 comes with a full-blown Node Graph Editor.

Our team invested a lot of effort into building a Node Graph Editor that’s intuitive and works similarly to the ones you’ve already seen in other digital content creation solutions. It should be pretty easy for you to get on board.

Pre-cache your library for speed

One often requested feature has always been the ability to pre-process your library so you don’t have to wait for the different views to load. We added a new Power-user feature that allows you to do exactly that.

It’s called Local Pre-caching and unlike its big brother, the Shared Content Metadata for teams, it doesn’t require any storage setup because everything is stored locally and accessible only by the instance that runs the tool. Check out this short guide. Perfect for Solo plan users.

Simple and easy to use, this feature can drastically improve the browsing experience in your library — just run it before the weekend and then enjoy the almost instant loading of the views. For additional features, such as indexed search and metadata filters, you’ll have to utilize the Shared Content Metadata.

Migrate here and there

Another feature often requested in our community is the ability to migrate the Project Manager 3ds Max plugin database to Connecter and make the switch as smooth as possible. The handy tool is now accessible and requires just a couple of clicks to set you up. Check out our guide for more information. If you are migrating from Project Manager, please contact our support team, which will help you with the onboarding.

As promised, we’re also adding the missing piece in the migration of Connecter Workspaces to allow you to effortlessly switch from Shared to Personal. All you need to do is enter a Personal Workspace, go to Tools -> Migrate Workspace, and pick the Shared Workspace you want. Then, wait until the data is transferred. We have a dedicated guide for this, too.

Integration updates

Very straightforward — 3ds Max and Rhino integrations are getting support for the latest versions of the respective software solutions. Some big changes in the backend led to a major rework of our integrations. Especially with 3ds Max 2025, we had to redevelop the UI — there’s no visual difference but the code behind has changed.

Something that we want to remind you of is that you need to install the integrations manually after they receive an update. That also applies to the 3ds Max integration — it’s no longer an automatic update when you drag and drop an asset.

You can see all the changes and fixes in the release notes. As always, if you want to get in touch with our team, just email or message us.

Just restart the software to get the update or download it from the website.
