Connecter’s Brand New Cinema 4D Integration

In the grand scheme of things, every process happens at its own pace. A turtle’s life lasts more than 100 years, while that of a fly can be mere hours. The same can be said even for software development — some apps can skyrocket to maturity, while others gradually achieve it over a long period of time.

Our recent article about Connecter integrations mentions that each of them follows its own lifeline, and that’s totally true. What we haven’t said is that the ultimate goal is the same — a solution that makes the experience of using Connecter and host software a lot better. It’s the ultimate performance booster that enhances every aspect of your workflow.

It’s not a secret that Connecter’s 3ds Max integration was further ahead in terms of development and options than the others. Not anymore…

Version 2 of Connecter’s Cinema 4D integration is a great equalizer. It brings pretty much everything on a level with the 3ds Max integration and elevates the whole experience. Let’s dive in!

Dedicated instance & Generate Custom Previews

You’ll be able to download and manage studios and then use them to generate amazingly-looking custom previews using a dedicated instance of Cinema 4D. Everything is done within Connecter or in the background, so your C4D won’t be blocked from generating previews.

The setup is literally the same as the one in 3ds Max, so have a look at this guide.

Generate Custom Previews for Cinema 4D assets.

Something that’s completely new for Cinema 4D users is the ability to reposition and scale the saved assets via the “Render_here” object that can be placed in your studios.

Update existing assets

No more pointing and overwriting. Seamlessly update assets already in your library — perfect for quickly saving a new preview or small geometry or texture adjustment.

Reworked UI

With all the new options and settings, we decided it was high time to polish the look of the menus. A new, more friendly interface will greet you at every step.

What’s ahead?

A couple of features couldn’t make it in this release, but we have news and plans for them. Let’s start with the bad one:

Our long-term ambition is to bring the Manage External Files (MEF) to as many formats as possible. We know that the ability to manage texture paths without opening the host software can be a huge time saver. Unfortunately, the currently available developer tools for Cinema 4D won’t allow us to create MEF at this point. We’re actively monitoring the situation and working on that feature to make it possible.

The better news is that full-fledged Proxy support is currently planned and developed. It’ll become publicly available in the upcoming weeks. That said, we intend to release beta versions of the Cinema 4D integration in our Connecter Insiders group, so join in if you’re interested in testing.

Now, all you need to do is to get Connecter 6, install the Cinema 4D integration 2.0.0, and enjoy the new features. A full list of all the changes and additions can be found in the changelog.

Just download Connecter and give it a try!

If you have feedback or ideas for future development, please share them with our support team.
